Godkendt protokoltitel: Homøostatisk plasticitet i det sensomotoriske system i forhold til kvantitative sensoriske målinger

Forskere hos Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP) ved Aalborg Universitet er interesserede i, hvordan vores centralnervesystem behandler smertefulde sansemæssige informationer og hvordan denne behandling påvirker vores overordnede oplevelse af smerte. 

For at undersøge dette, søger vi efter personer med kroniske kliniske lænderygsmerter, der har lyst til at deltage i et forsøg der består af to forsøgsgange, separeret af 2-3 uger.

Forsøgene vil anvende magnetisk hjernestimulation og lav-intensitets elektrisk hjernestimulering. Begge er ikke-invasive teknikker, der kortvarigt påvirker aktiviteten i den del af hjernen, der behandler smertefulde oplevelser. Disse teknikker er ufarlige og har været anvendt i mange andre forsøg. I forsøget vil vi bl.a. også bruge stimuleringer med tryk og varme for at vurdere, hvordan din krop behandler kortvarig smerte. Vi udtager også to blodprøver, en i hver forsøgsgang.

Du kan deltage i forsøget, hvis du enten er rask 

ELLER 

hvis du har kroniske kliniske lænderygsmerter. 

Endvidere skal du være højrehåndet, i alderen 18-60 år samt tale og forstå dansk eller engelsk.

Du kan ikke deltage, hvis du er gravid eller ammer, har eller har haft nervemæssige lidelser, lidelser i bevægeapparatet, lider af mentale lidelser eller andre sygdomme, hvis du oplever et anormalt søvnmønster 24 timer før eksperimentet, eller hvis du ikke kan opfylde kriterierne i spørgeskemaet ”Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Adult Safety Screen” (dvs. at du tidligere har haft et epileptisk anfald eller har et metalimplantat i kroppen).

Forsøget består af

• To forsøgssessioner af hver ca. 5-6 timers varighed med 2-3 ugers imellem,      hvor du lever et normalt liv, eller er på et smerterehabiliteringscenter.

Raske forsøgspersoner: Der udbetales en kompensation på i alt kr. 150 pr. laboratorietime for din deltagelse i forsøget. Beløbet er skattepligtigt og vil derfor blive indrapporteret til Skat som B-indkomst. Bemærk venligst, at du skal have en gyldig arbejdstilladelse, hvis du kommer fra et såkaldt tredjeland.

Forsøgspersoner, der lider af smerter: Der udbetales ikke kompensation for deltagelsen i forsøget men transportomkostninger kan dækkes.

Changes in electrical activity equilibrium in the sensorimotor system, and their relations to quantitative sensory testing (sub-experiment 8)

Approved protocol title: Exploring Homeostatic Plasticity in the Sensory-Motor System and the Relation to Sensory Testing

Researchers at Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP) at Aalborg University are interested in how our central nervous system is able to process painful sensory information and how this ability affects our overall experience of pain. 

To investigate this, we are seeking healthy adults and people with chronic low back pain to participate in an experiment consisting of two sessions separated by 2-3 weeks.

The experiments will use magnetic brain stimulation and low-intensity electrical brain stimulation. Both are non-invasive brain stimulation techniques to assess brain activity in the region of your brain involved in processing painful experiences. These are safe techniques that have been used in many experiments. In the experiment, we will also use brief stimulations with pressure and heat to assess how you process short-term pain.

You can participate in the experiments if you are a healthy individual without chronic pain

OR 

if you are otherwise healthy but have chronic low back pain that has persisted for six months or more. 

Further, you must be aged 18-60 and speak and understand Danish or English.

You cannot participate in the experiments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have or have a history of major neurologic, musculoskeletal, psychiatric, or other illnesses, if you experience abnormally disrupted sleep 24 hours preceding the experiment, or if you cannot fulfill the criteria in the questionnaire “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Adult Safety Screen”(history of epilepsy, metal implants in head or jaw, etc.), this final criteria will be assessed by a researcher in a screening interview.

The experiment consists of:

• Two experimental sessions each lasting approximately 5-6 hours with 2-3 week gap in between, either of normal life or a stay at the pain rehabilitation center.

Healthy subjects: You will receive DKK 150 per hour spent in the laboratory as compensation for your participation in the experiment. The amount is liable to tax and will therefore be reported to the Danish tax authorities as B-income. Please note that you must have a valid work permit if you come from outside of Denmark.

Subjects with recurrent or chronic pain: You will not receive compensation for your participation in the experiment, but transport costs will be compensated.

The experiment has been approved by The North Denmark Region Committee on 

Health Research Ethics, project number N-20210047.
